About the Project

Given the theme ‘technology in education’, I set out to research the ways rapidly innovating and relatively new technological subjects are taught in universities. I ended up writing about something a little closer to home: the failures and appeal of my own degree program, as experienced by an intro student I helped tutor. As an undergraduate going-on-graduate Computer Science major, I am deeply invested in figuring out if I’ve made a horrible mistake in spending thousands of dollars on my degree before I go off and pay for another one. That anxious debt-fueled energy is now available for your consumption in the form of commentary on the flaws in university tech programs, why they still appeal to us over other education options, and how they might yet improve.
